Title: XV920 - Canadian Model, a good buy?? Post by Mark(Guest) on 01.05.03 at 04:18:00
Hi, I've came across a decent '81 XV920 (Called the Virago here). The seller is asking $1500 Canadian dollars - about $1000 U.S.D. I am interested in turning it into a cafe racer - Is it worth it or should i be looking for a wrecked one to buy for dirt cheap? Any info would be great. thanks, Mark Ontario, Canada Ps. Nice pictures - good incentive. |

If it the enclosed-chain model XV920, it is very rare in North America (especially now that it's 20 years old). Finding a wrecked one and finding or fabricating parts to repair it may be more troublesome and/or expensive than what you would spend on this one. If it's in decent shape that seems like a very fair price, but it would be a shame to cut it up.

Hi ! I live in Canada and I own a XV920RH. It's not a Virago. The first Virago was introduced in 1982 and was shaft drive. If you find a décent XV920RH (which is chain drive), buy it. It's a collector's item. |

I would go ahead and do it. I purchased my 920rh in february for $1500 american. It already had a few modifications such as new springs (progressives) and wheel and brake upgrades. I am in the process of cafeinating the bike as well. They make great cafe racers as they are narrow and torque-y. It is possible to make rearsets relatively easily from the existing peg mounts. I will be making bodywork this fall for the rear end to go solo. Can the stock be any uglier? Let me know if your are interested. |

have you had any stater motor problems? It seems as if it is not engaging most of the time but engaged it starts well. Great fun though .Best wishes VINCE
