Hi The cams on my '83 TR1 are noisy at tickover - they do quieten down under load. Am I right to think that replacing the heads & cams completely is the only way to solve this? Or is there a repair possible? Thanks Dave |

Hi, before replacing the complete heads you can open the head from the cover-side; then loosen the cam chain sprocket and the screw to fix the solid bush; then you can tire out the camshaft with the cam chain sprocket-bolt. Attention: you must have set the piston at Top Dead Center (TDC) and the valve clearance should be checked. Now you can see if the cam is good or must be replaced. A repair is not possible, yamaha offers original new cams (and by the way new valve rocker arms). I hope I could help you. (Sorry for my bad english!) Greetings Hartmut |

Maby a warning is in place; the chain may be overtensioned if it has been loose and tightened again when you put it all together again. I think you should loosen the chain tensioner on the cylinder first and after the cam has been replaced you should put it back (the tensioner) in the right way. (Se the workshop-manual)
