Title: TR1 Carburetors
Post by Joy Shields(Guest) on 20.11.03 at 22:51:00

I have recently purchased a 1985 TR1 which has been stored and not running for 15 years. I have tried to start the bike. Spark OK, suspect carburetor problem. It looks like the carburetors have been stripped before. The main jet needle seems to be slightly damaged and I cannot remove the needle jet from the carburetor body. Should this part come out?? According to my maintenance manual it should simply fall out when tapped! Any suggestions?? Thanks
Are there second hand reconditioned carburetors available? If so, where from?
Enschuldigen Sie bitte das Ich kann nicht Deutsch sprechen.

Hi,
after such a long time you should completely disassemble the carburetors and clean them with yamaha carburetor cleaner and/or ultrasonic. The idle and main jet can be screwed out, while the float valve normally can be pulled out, after removing a small screw and a piece of tin, that fixes it. I think nothing should fall out by itself... ;-)
Bye,
Georg

The main needle jet should fall out when you turn the carurettor upside down. I tried it on my 81- and 83- TR1. and they did fall out!
You don't need to remove the main jet needle but if it's bent you have to replace it!
