Title: Swingarm bushings
Post by bob druge(Guest) on 14.02.05 at 15:53:00

what is the best approach to replacing the swingarm bushings & bearings? Are these parts still available, i have a 1981 XV 920 RH. i think that in the past i have seen a listing for someone on this board that you can send the arm to rebuild this.  any ideas are appreciated, we need to keep these bikes going here in usa.

I have not tried them yet but this company in england will replace the diaphrams on your carb slides at what seems to be a very reasonable cost. has anyone used this service ? their link is http://www.cameron-site.co.uk/nrp/index.htm

The swingarm bearings are needlebearnings. Normally they lasts very good! On my old TR1 (1981) that has 70 000 km on the odo the bearings was OK. I just cleaned out a bit and put in som new grease, that's it! In most cases when you remove these bearings they are destroyed so be shure to have spare parts at home if you do.
I removed the back wheel and the stays for the footpegs. Losened the 2 10 mm bolts on the chaincase. I think I had to remove the rear exhust as well. Then I could remove the bolt, dislokate the swingarm so much that i could remove the dust caps and remove the swingarm-axle. Inspected the axle and the bearings and did a small amount of cleaning, added some grease and then assembled in reverse order.
Good luck!
Lars
