Title: Head Nut Tension Post by Ash on 17.03.06 at 05:25:09
I presume many of you have replaced your head gaskets on your TR1 … I have just done this on my TR1 for the first time. However, I am having difficulty establishing the correct tension for the head nuts – and the local Yamaha dealers say its too old for their books. Is the final head nut tension 64nm/46 lbs or only 50nm/35lbs? If I pull them down to 35lbs the head doesn’t meet the barrel – so I have pulled them down further to the full 46lbs and everything meets up (apparently the fire ring head gasket was not being crushed sufficiently with 35lbs). Is this correct and normal? Ashley |

Did you check the TechInfo (http://www.tr1.de/tr1/tr1_info.htm) at this site? And there the Service Manuals (http://www.tr1.de/cgi-bin/service.cgi?key=xv1000)? In special this page (http://www.tr1.de/cgi-bin/service.cgi?key=xv1000&lng=eng&flg=0&pge=0064)? That should help! :) Cheers Manfred |

hi Manfred Yes I did check that site - which is where I got the two different head nut tensions from - but I'm a bit nervous pulling a bike head down to 46lbs (64 nm). is that the correct tension? Ash |

Hi Ash, the most important is, that head and cylinder are on block. If you need 70 or 75 is not a problem. Greetings Sepp |
