Title: Frame & Suspension - does XV750 fit the TR1?
Post by brownoverall on 11.09.07 at 23:03:57

Simple question - are the top (main) frame and rear suspension unit for the XV750 a match for the TR1?
I would guess yes, but if anyone here can confirm this, vielen Dank!

hello Ivor,
I am not so sure about the dimensions of the rear suspension rolling bearings.
I think the shaft driven XV750 is smaller.

Thanks, Olaf - are these replaceable do you think, or built-in?

hi Ivor,

the bearing carrier of the XV models is not placed in the middle of the frame and I think, its width and its diameter is smaller than the TR1 carrier. The bearing carrier is welded to the frame, built-in, not replaceable.

best regards, Olaf

Hi, Olaf,

After a brainwave, I checked the diagrams and part numbers at the Star Yamaha lists in the USA?

The part numbers for the rear suspension mounting bushes and pins (top and bottom) for the XV920RJ (US version of the TR1) and the XV750J are identical.

The swing arm is different of course - chain drive v shaft, but unless the frame and part numbers were somehow different for the European version of the XV1000 TR1 (the microfiches don't show part numbers)
then I think I may be in luck?
So are you sure about this? I do mean the early XV750 - 1981-1984?

Looks like the frame part numbers are identical too, apart from the swinging arms.

Best,

Ivor B.

Hi Ivor,
of course I am not sure about this! (see 1st posting).

But in this Forum I saw that People used other descriptions for the rolling bearings than I knew from my XV750SE. The problem is, that there is nobody who has a TR1 and a XV750 as well.

Maybe, there is no difference.

Best regards, Olaf

I think what is confusing me a little is that you call them "rolling bearings" Olaf?
Do you mean proper "roller bearings"?
My memory and the part diagrams are of hard rubber bushes at the rear shock mounts,
but I can't dismantle mine to take a look? (Well, not easily   :-)  ) so i may be wrong.

Or is there a modification I do not know about to fits proper roller bearings instead?

hi,
maybe it´s only a question of language and terms. Roller bearing is right, perhaps needle bearing is better. Here is a picture of the XV bearngs.

length of bolt 143mm
diameter of bearing cup 30mm

Perhaps someone can verify the design of TR1 used bearings?

Weiss jemand, ob das TR1 Schwingenlager so aussieht? Masse wie oben.

Gruss Olaf

As far as I know the frame and the suspension of the XV750 (in Germany the type is 5G5, in the States it is 4X7) and TR1/XV920 are identical.
