Hello from Canada!

I have finally found an '81 XV920 in beautiful condition and I'd like to put a set of spoked wheels on it.  I've read through the other posts as far as I can (most being in German!) and I understand that the '70's XS650 wheels will fit.

Are they a direct bolt-on, or is there anything that must be done to adapt them?

If I can find a set on a complete XS650, are there any other pieces that I need, besides the wheels?

OK, well I found a set of wheels off a 1977 XS650 standard with double front disk and drum rear brakes.  Is there a trick to getting the wheels properly aligned in the frame? The front wheel looks easy enough, as long as the axle is the same size and the speedo drive works, but the back one must align in the swingarm properly and have a correct chain line.  Will I have to get special spacers made up for this, or are there standard ones that will work properly?

The XV920 is pretty much the same bike as the TR1 and somebody must have done this before, haven't they?

The XV920 is identical to the TR1 (except for engine displacement), so anybody who has fitted wire wheels to their TR1 should be able to advise me.  My 920 is ridden daily and I'd rather not get half way through mounting the spoked wheels, only to find that I need to order (or make up) a spacer or speedo drive or new front discs or some such thing and have my bike sitting for weeks waiting for parts.

I've recently put spoked wheels in an LC350 for a client. We used XS650 front hub which has the correct bolt pattern for your discs and uses a large dia axle - sorry can't remember dia - wouldn't surprise me if it's the same as TR1. I had to narrow the hub across the disc flanges to achieve the correct disc spacing but again I wouldn't be surprised if the XS is correct for TR1.
Rear is a case of putting the wheel on center & checking the chain line. The sprocket carrier can be eithe machned back or a sprocket spacer made to suit.
This is a good chance to 1, change to 530 chain. 2, put on some modern rim sizes - I'd try 18 x wm3 front and 17 x 4in rear which I think will fit. A pair of BT45 Bridgestones to suit these rims & your'e away laughing.
Cultivate a local machine shop - you will need spacers etc.
