Title: Convert an xv1000 to single carby setup Post by padraig on 26.09.10 at 02:35:18
Hello to all the other xv nuts out there, I would like to convert my '80 xv1000 to a single carb setup but am not sure where to start. What would be the best carb to use? What would be the best intake manifold layout? Over the years I have owned 2 Midnight Specials and 2 TR1s. At the moment I have 2 TR1s and 1 Midnight Special. The M.S. is the 2nd one built. Serial Number 000002. I will put up a picture of it when I work how to. I have been a fan of this site for a few years now and it is great to see so many other xv fanatics out there. All help will be greatly appreciated. Any other Aussie members out there? Thanks Pat |

Cheers Pat, unfortunately I am no OZ-mate, but as close as it will get, as I am from Austria (yeah the small, slightly retarded twin-brother, who communicates only via yodelling ;D ) Alrighty, back to topic. There's a fine chap in the states who knocks up single inlet manifolds, he works by the name of ccworks: http://www.ccworks.org/viewtopic.php?p=89%20- Quite honestly though, those kits look pretty sh*te, when installed. Talking about carbs, a Mikuni HSR 40 should work pretty well, as would a big Dellorto or any other 40(ish) smoothbore. There's also a version of this manifold on which you may directly bolt on a Mikuni BST40 (stock carb on the Harley Sportster), which should be rather cheap on eBay, as all the "cool" guys in the Harley world are convinced, that they have to swap it out for something else. Same carb was also fitted onto KTM LC4 640ies... Cheers, Greg |
