as far as I know there is no offset,
i remember there was a posting (german) how to mount a rear XS650 Spoke wheel , it needs to be offsetted i think,

I have recently changed my wheels to spoked. Based on XS650 hubs.
The rims should be aligned with the centre of the hubs at the front and rear.
There are spacers required for the front and rear axles.
But, I do not fully understand what your problem is. Can you describe your problem in more detail and perhaps I can help.

hi Kevin , Ali im also using XS650 wheels which have been re spoked
and Im using Rob Lincolns pDF diagrams

i've found that the xs650 rear wheel even after using the correct spacers is offset from the front wheel and out of alignment)
and that the chain alignment from rear sprocket to front sprocket ( using spacers 8mm as per RL pdf)  is out by nearly 4mm

I followed the Robert Lincoln notes and found perfect alignment between the front and rear sprockets.

I also had the alignment of front and rear wheels checked when I had the bike MOT'd and the alignment was good.

To be honest, it just fitted together nicely first time.

Could you have a bent swing arm?

Are there different versions of the Robert Lincoln notes? I could send mine on if that would help? Please advise.

since re checking alignment i found rob L 's notes were fairly general
measurements do differ between thev1981  US Xv920rh and the euro TR1 Xv1000rh , australian Xv1000 rh
the measurements  in width of the XS650 spoked wheels from 74 -78 are different

re  front wheel from a xs650 you need 4.5 mm spacer on the speedometer side and 2mm on the right side
for proper disc alignment
its better to use the original  TR1's chain adjusters
re spacers for the rear sprocket i'd go 7mm exactly 5/16th is close to 8mm

Very informative update.

I am obviously from the 'big hammer' school of engineering! It's good to see the effort you have put into this. It is the first time in this forum that I have seen the differences between different versions of the bike called out.

Excellent though the Robert Lincoln notes are I think they would benefit from an update in the light of the experience that you, I and others have gained. Perhaps that is a job for the winter?

I have used the TR1 chain tensioners as well. When the conversion is done we keep the TR1 axle so saw no reason to change to the XS650 type specified by RL.

For the front wheel I agree that two spacers are required for perfect alignment. But I fitted the front wheel in and out several times during the rebuild and found the 2mm spacer very fiddly to fit. I noted that there is enough float in the caliper pistons so you don't need perfect alignment with the calibers. The discs can be slightly offset in the calipers and the pistons adjust to the discs. It works and saves the hassle of the thin spacer.
