Title: Won't start.... Again!
Post by KINGPRAWN on 16.02.14 at 12:34:54

day at 12:32:16 ยป Well work, Christmas and all this tragic weather since December have ment I haven't even tried to start the old girl. Today bright sunshine .... But now nothing, just an almighty single BANG that leaves your ears bleeding! Having fitted new diaphragms and carb kits I have had here running nicely but no idea if it was rich or lean. I've had a ride for 10 mins ( few miles) up the road and was niclely happy with how it was going ( and both down pipes are hot) . SO , what the hell has gone wrong just sitting??? Do they have a starting procedure all of their own? Full choke no throttle, some throttle or full throttle?? Half choke no choke blah blah ???????
Or any ideas.... Thanks

full choke, no throttle would be recommended. You can try and turn up the idle adjusting srew a little (half rev.), but not too much.
But first, set the fuel cocks on position "PRI" for at least twenty seconds. This will flood the carb's chambers. Otherwise there may be a lack of fuel for the first minute or so.

After the 'bang': Did You check the carb holders? Are both carbs still sticking in there?

Check or just change the spark plugs, as they might have got wet. Is there a decent spark to be seen?

Hang on,
Stefan

Thanks Stephan.... All seems good. My only concern world be the little "o" rings inside the manifold broke as I have had the carbs on and off so many times now, but thought I'd made a good repair( perhaps not).. I have 3different TCI UNITS and 3 other coils , so some of all that must be good??  When it explodes it does smell "dry" and not petroly if that makes sense ???
