Fitted with front mudguard

How does the exhaust system work for you? The muffler probably doesn't do much in terms of silencing..

That doesn't look too bad at all. Can you tell me what components you used for this exhaust system and where you bought them? My original parts are rusting pretty badly by now, and the front header pipe lost nearly half its cross section a long time ago (wasn't me..  >:()
Did you re-jet the carburetors?

Unfortunately the Mac exhaust has a 59mm internal diameter connection to the silencer making a tight seal difficult, though the exhaust slots straight in giving a very uniform look, still trying to seal the two together though, I've just purchased some GunGum exhaust sealer which hopefully will cure the problem, any more ideas about sealing the two together would be gratefull?

Due to the weather here in the UK I've yet to ride it so cannot comment on the carburation, but the engine runs & sounds good

By the way I have just sold the original exhaust which is in very good condition considering it's 35 years old, the buyer only wanted the rear header pipe & may want to sell the front downpipe and the silencers separately. I have yet to send the items to him.

Please let us know how the chrome on the Mac held up. I used to have the black coated version and it was so bad, I started building my own exhausts subsequently. Talking about carbs, you may want to consider investing in some Dellorto or Mikuni carbs. It really livens up the old girl.

Regarding jetting: I used to run the biggest mains available with the Mac, but that was also maybe because I ran a straight-through glasspack muffler with it, which was loud as hell, but made some good power.

The chrome looks ok, but there is a little rust between the front pipe & the manifold clamp so I'd guess the chrome layer is a bit thin, will let you know how it lasts over the coming months.

Carbs will be the next job, I've heard the Mikuni VM38's are a good upgrade but seem a little difficult to buy these days. I can get some VM36 carbs for reasonable cost but not sure if they are up to the job

Always depends on how you define "get the job done". I have some personal experience with VM38s, Sepp and some others on here have lots with Dellortos. From a personal point of view, I wouldn't go smaller than 38 really, especially as you'll sooner or later consider venturing down the 1100cc-route. Whether it's because you want horsepower or because you simply can't be bothered with the stock asbestos-ring headgaskets is up to you.
