Title: Maximum Revs
Post by Broodjesalami on 28.06.18 at 07:59:31

Hi
Does annyone know how to change/disable the rev limiter on the TR1?
This dyno shows an xv920 chain pulling much higher.

Are you using a programmable Ignitech box? If so adjust it, if not, I don't think you can.

Cheers,
Greg

As far as i know, the XV920/TR1 has no Rev Limiter- exept you have the Ignitech-Box. If so, as Nanno said, just change the parameter.
By looking at the picture- the sheet- i wonder, because a XV cannot rev 8600, exept it is highly tuned. 7500, as the red line shows, is more "normal".
It seems the limitation of rev and power  is caused by the carbs/ Air intake and may be the exhaust, the red A/F line looks ugly,

The dyno graph isnt from my bike.
Buth he uses a stock ignition, costum exhaust and pod filter on the frame.

I do believe there is a rev limiter. Maybe not a hard limiter buth the front cilinder the spark is advanced/retarded and causes misfire at around 6600-7000 rpm.
My bike still puls strong at that speed

... or that may simply be valve float. Also it depends a lot on the exhaust you use, what kind of max. RPM you can achieve. Additionally, if you fitted an XV750 head, you will be out of look climbing such high RPMs (and make decent power there).

I recently had some similiar issues on my TR1, because one of the coils was giving up. The other thing to consider: In order to reach such RPMs you need more ignition advance than the stock unit will provide, unless you go all medieval on the mounting points of the pickup plate and start moving that around in the cases.

Cheers,
Greg

I would confirm Ali and Gregs notes: there is no rev limiter on the original ignition. Many years ago my bike turned up to 8200 rpm, without any tuning, just with some additional holes in original exhaust caused by severe corrosion. No misfire or ignition switch off. Speedometer in 5th gear was somewhere between 190 and 200.

Can you move the points around? adjust the ignition?

Sure. You just need to drill out the holes and mill slots in. The question is, how practical this is... Also the pickups are rather sensitive to the right distance to the rotor or they won't trigger at all.

If I want higher revs do I need to change the ignition or do I need stiffer valve springs?

If you want more Revs, you need more power at your engine, a bad clutch, a unsensible rev counter
or a steep road down...…………………….
