My TR1 has just returned to me after three years. Unfortunately it's been somewhat neglected and the switch clusters are broken on both sides. The hi-lo switch has lost its grip and the starter button doesn't work well. Does anyone have any reasonably priced switches?

Hello Keith eBay is a reasonable source for these switches, you just have to wait until they become available. Perhaps you can get the parts and don't need to replace the switches. What is it exactly you need? If you can send a photo of the hi-Lo grip I am sure someone on this forum can help. Also, the starter button issue is usually down to the button itself. Those are available separately. I will look I may have one. Or if anyone else on the forum knows where to get one please post a source. Where are you based in the UK? Regards Kevin |

Hi. It's definitely the button. A previous owner fitted an abomination from Maplin's when the original one went kaput. It requires so much force that much stopping and starting leaves me with a bruised thumb... I'm in Stoke. |

Kedo in Germany does the starter button alone. As does Yambits in the UK and I think even WEMOTO (in the UK as well) has got the kit available to just fix the pushbutton. The slider is the same on literally all old Yamahas, so you just buy a switch cluster which is the same external and gut it. That being said, I think Yambits actually has got the slider internals as well. (Might work out cheaper to buy a complete cluster and part it out though...) Cheers, Greg |

Thanks, Kevin and Greg, for that information. The cause is thusly advanced... I really do hate that - er - thing - masquerading as a starter button. It was on when I first got the bike. The dip slider was ok when it left, but appears to have taken a hit during its time in Stafford.

I know for a fact that SR500, XS400 and XS750 internals will work (cause that's what I had to fix mine), so don't narrow yourself down too much. You have to be a bit handy with the old soldering iron, if your switches have been butchered. (You may want to open a new thread with some piccies in the General section and we'll see how we can help you out, if needs be...) Cheers, Greg |
