As everyone who owns a TR1 knows, the  exhaust pipework from the rear cylinder loves to rust. My TR1 has a BSM exhaust system so I had hoped that this wouldn't be the case. Alas! I don't suppose anyone has any bits of rear pot pipework lying around, do they? I might be able to cobble something together... August and the Pitton rally draw ever nearer...

Hi Kevin.
The complication is that it's a BSM system - it looks standard-ish, but breathes slightly better. I had hoped it would last better too, but alas, it's just as rot-prone as the original where it splits to right and left mufflers. This is not helped by the fact that it had to be modified by the bike's previous owner as BSM had sent the 920 system, which didn't clear the chain guard gaiter.
Short answer - any bits and/or bobs from the rear pot's pipework...

I assume you are talking about the short section of exhaust that goes from the rear cylinder and then splits into two to go to each exhaust can?

I have an old rear exhaust with both connectors rusted that could be repaired or modified. I also have a replacement rear tube that I was going to fit to my bike but haven't got around to it yet. I could fit the replacement exhaust and get the old one to you.

It would help if you could send a photo of what you have and it would me determine whats the best way to help. Can you send a photo?

I've edited this as, disturbingly, my effusive 'thank you' for your kind offer appears not to have - er - appeared. So thank you very much indeed for your kind offer.
It's not an easy area to get at to photograph so it'll probably be the weekend before I can get to it. Since posting my question I've acquired some Holts exhaust repair kits, which, used in conjunction with each other, may make a reasonably viable repair.
I'm pretty sure it won't be a permanent fix, whatever Holts may claim, but I've high hopes of it lasting long enough to get to the rally, and hopefully back again... After all, a far less coherent repair managed the 300 mile round trip to the Ding Dong Rally near Potter's Bar back in '87 on my first TR1...
Having said all that, a few bits and pieces from the dark recesses of the area behind a TR1's rear pot wouldn't go amiss - my pet mechanic/welder might be able to do something better with those than I can manage with my little rolls of aluminium, jubilee clips and gun gum, so any bits you can stand to part with would be hugely appreciated.

I have an old rear exhaust section which is solid apart from where it connects to the two cans. It sounds like a good candidate to help you out as you need to cut it up anyway.

I may well have another one which could be better prior to the rally. Or if your repair is solid enough you could pick it up at the rally.
