Title: [TR1 1983 Tank Emblems] - Correct position
Post by Evripidis on 05.02.24 at 22:08:40

Hallo all,

I would like to ask what the original position of the tank emblems is please. All you knowledgeable dogs must know. On the one I just got the left-hand side is different to the right one. I am attaching two pictures.

I have been able to find similar paradigms online but my research has been inconclusive.

Can anyone point out whether this is original or should I rectify it. This has been their position with photographs sent to me by the previous seller. He also contacted the person he got the bike from and was told that this has been the case too when he had it.

Any information is appreciated before I attempt anything!

Regards,
Evros

Hi Evros,

Check out the cover photo of our Homepage, then you will see the position.
The emblem seems too big to me, it should be 135 x 35 mm.

Hello Evripidis,
if you are a perfectionist relocate der Emblem 1 on both sides. You will destroy the self adhesive Rubber- Inlet on the Backseide of the Emblem.
New Original Emblems will costs around 45 EUR/each.

On serveral images of the Original TR1 Publications, there is to see, that these Emblems are slidly differend in tehr Position on the Fuel-Tank.
I think it is a matter of handcrafted Application. Additional to that, the Emblems are showing tendency forword up, a little bit.

So, my Tipp, if you want to change the position: The Motorcycle on both wheels, perhaps with a separate helping hand.

Try try to create a horizontal line on both sides. Thereby use pinter-tape, because its is earier to remove at the End.
HOW TO:
a) Try to set the Painter-Tabe horizontal on the Side of the Fuel-Tank. Use it as lower level for your new Position of the Emblem.
b) messure the Position from the surface and reply it exact on the oposide.
c) you can middle the distance betwen forward curve and rear curve or what ever. The only think, do it on both side of the Fuel Tank in the same way.
d) if you have the new position fixed, applicate the Emblems.

The both pictures are showing the same Bike.
The upper Image shows how the Emblem is applicated originaly (possible). It is parallel to the Points, if the Fuel Tank sits on your Work-Bench, without Fuel-Cocks.
The lower Image shows the way I discribed abow.

Hope that helps you

Kind regards
Anja

Hallo Anja,

Thank you for responding with these details.

It is indeed in my head from time to time. I am just trying to perfect the procedure in my head and then it is going to be easy. Thank you for assisting with the detailed steps.

Indeed I need a reference and from the looks of it, both emblems have been pushed towards the front. I am thinking that a polisher must have done this, or a batch of adhesive that was not as strong and in combination with fumes, heat and vibration.

The previous owners have been extremely kind with this bike. The person I got it from is very trustworthy and a true gentleman.

The other idea is to get measurements from someone else and somehow replicate them based on a common point, e.g., the tank cap.

I will keep this forum posted if I do anything on this.

Regards,
Evros
