hi all
i have a strange problem.
when my tr1 has plenty of oil in it the oil warning light is on, when its drained the light is off ?.
ive removed the sensor and as i turn it up and down the light comes on and off in the opposite way than it should.
so the switch is working but back to front, any ideas ?.

also as in my previous post id like to know if the later xv1000 cylinders are a strait swop with the earlier ones  ?.
mine have the cut outs for the head gasket and chain tunnel o rings, where as the later ones have a flat head and the the gaskets are easily available, where as the the early ones are almost impossible to get .
any help would be appreciated.

Cylinders are a straight swap, as long as you have an XV1000. (The 920 has got a smaller liner diameter and would need modifications to the cases.)

Hattest du den Sensor ausgebaut, und auseinander genommen ??
Dann könntest du den Schwimmer falsch herum eingesetzt haben.
Ich meine, der Sensor besteht aus einem Reedkontakt und einen
(asymmetrisch) Magnet-Schwimmer.
Siehe Bild.
Und nun drehe den Schwimmer (gedanklich) um 180⁰ herum.
Dann erhältst du dein Problem.

If the sensor is removed the lamp should not shine at all because the switch in the sensor connects the cable to ground. If the sensor is removed from ground the lamp can not shine.

when the sensor was out i earthed it to the case while rotating it to check the orientation of the light coming on/off and its definitely opposite to the way it should be.  

ive never taken the sensor apart and it doesnt look as though its been opened up in the past ?, but thats interesting and would explain the issue. the sensor had already been disconnected when i bought the bike after they did a speedo swap with no oil light.

as for the cylinders i have a tr1 so i assume the xv1000 cylinders would be a strait swap then, which would mean far easier head gasket changes in the future.
would i loose any compression as the thickness of the gasket would i assume increase the stroke a little ?.

laut Schaltplan sollte der Ölsensor ein "Schließer" sein, das heißt:
viel Öl = Schalter offen  //  wenig Öl = Schalter zu

Probiere folgendes:
Ziehe den Stecker ab, und halte das Kabel (vom Kabelbaum) an Masse.
..... die Leuchte sollte an gehen !!
Dann ist die Verkabelung ok, ...aber der Sensor (vermutlich) gebrochen,
....das Bruchstück erzeugt einen Kurzschluß.
Wenn der Magnet (Schwimmer) dann wieder zum Reed kommt (wenig Öl),
wird das Bruchstück vom Magnet bewegt, und öffnet wieder den Kurzschluß
(Licht geht aus).

Ist es das nicht, hast du irgendwo falsch verkabelt.
