Title: O Ring chain? Post by Ash on 01.04.06 at 11:08:52
My Yamaha dealer told me that I can use an O Ring Chain on my TR1. But after purchasing and cutting the new expensive O Ring chain, I noticed a small comment in my manual that says NOT to use these chains. Has anyone successfully used the ORing style drive chain?? Does it really matter?? Ash. |

I think it shouldnt matter. Using an O-ring chain in a closed chain case may be better than using a non-O-ring chain without chain case. ;-) Just try it and tell us the result. ;-) Bye, Georg |

hi Dieter, my German is not very good (tried to learn German but its kinda complicated!!) - but I think you are saying to check the chain each 18,000 klm, and something about how the heat within the chain guard can affect the O rings? is this correct? Ash

I check the chain every time when i change the rear tyre. But i have to adjust the tension only every 3 or 4 tyres (6.000 to 8.000 kilometers each). He sais that some peolpe say, that the heat within the chain case could burn the o-rings, but he also says that this is nonsense. And even if the rings get burned, who cares? The original chain has no rings either. ;-) IOW: Dont care to much about the chain, go riding! ;-) Gruss, Georg |
