I am New in this Forum & require help.  
I got the classic mighty 1982 TR1 from a German friend.
The TR1 has been sleeping more than 6 years.

Things done for TR1 :

1. Drained old petrol Fuel from Fuel Tank & Carbs
2. New Oil & Oil Filter Replaced
3. New Airfilter replaced
4. New Spark Plugs Replaced
5. Cleaned & replaced with repair Carb kits
6. Front Brakes were Jammed !! cleaned & New Brake fluid (DOT 4)  
7. Rear Brake shoe & brake drums Cleaned
8. Brand New Front & Rear Bridgestone Tyres
9. New Gel Battery
10. Fixed a small hole damage under left side Exhaust

The last thing is left in my opinion is the replace Oil or Grease in the Chaincase.

I have ridden more than 50 different motorcycles & I have never seen Chaincase system  :o

I have taken a photo of the oil dipped from the knot slowly opened.
The oil is not thick neither it is thin  :)

I have ridden 2 to 3 times in private area for 10 minutes of max speed doing 30 Km/h as I do not have plate number.

There has been no issue or sound from chain.

Please recommend that I change the oil or grease after 6 years sleeping? If yes, what type of Oil or Grease ?

How shall I know how much to fill in the top knot of chaincase ?  

I do not see any Youtube video regarding this or did not find in Workshop manual.



One of member in Hamburg which is close to me, recommended to put Lithium Grease. Another member in the Forum recommend to put Chainsaw Oil.

I am confused what to do and what brand is best.  I sometimes ride very hard and I make sure the chain is in good condition.  Chain are expensive to replace. I want to avoid that  ;)

I just have fallen in Love with this classic Look of TR1.

TR1 was never been in Dubai.  I find it unique classic cult motorcycle.

It has been very easy to work on TR1, despite I am not mechanic.

My Iranian friends in Iran loves it and asking me that they want one  ;D

Hello Ali_Vmax,

...your exhaust certainly won't last long (that's the famous weak point), start
looking around for something new.

The chaincase would be the best thing that can drive in a desert state
(besides the cardan shaft, of course).
The way the case is dripping, I would remove the old oil and fill it with new grease.
No oil belongs in there; that's more of an experimental nature.
Yamaha recommends 1 kg of EP2 lithium grease (very pressure-stable),
0.7 kg is also enough; with it, the chain and sprockets will easily last 180-200,000 km.
And pay attention to the ventilation!!...otherwise it won't seal (it will be grease forced
out due to excess pressure).

Oh yeah, the TR1 isn't for brutes.

Ich selbst habe eine O-Ring-Kette an meinem TR1.
Sie ist seit 18 Jahren und 80.000 km gefahren.
Ist noch lange nicht abgenutzt.
Sprühen Sie die Kette einmal jährlich (3.000–4.000 km) mit Kettenspray ein.
Dies ist ganz einfach durch die Inspektionskappe in der Nähe des Hinterrads möglich.

Earlier the same hole was on my Yamaha TDM850 which I use this same grey clay and never had any problem and it was hard like a rock.

Anyway, I am looking for second hand aftermarket exhaust or the original.

Great, i will buy 1 Kilo EP2 lithium grease & use 0,70 Kilo in the chain case  ;)
