Other tanks for the TR1
28.11.14 at 11:30:17

Hello

I am thinking of changing the tank on my bike. I like the flat tracker look but frankly I am getting bored with the many bikes with the Bennelli Mojave tank. I want to try something different.

Has anyone tried to fit any other tank apart from the Benelli Mojave to a TR1?

If so was it it a straight fit or did the tank require modification?

If you were pleased with the results can you post a photo please?

Thank you in advance,

Regards
Kevin

yep!

I was also getting bored of the movaje tank. But the stock tank doesn't match my plans of a more classic 70's styling with spoke wheels, bump seat etc.

Therefore I took the tank of a xs1100. It doesn't fit like a dream, i didn't liked the filler cap, and it was rusted from the inside. Therefore I cut it in pieces and welded it into a new tank on the basis of an old TR1 tank so it would fit like a dream on the Original mountings.

Left the xs1100 tank on the tunnel of a tr1 tank, and right the Original tank:

here the tank is welded, prepared for painting and a stock tr1 for a last fit. Also note the straight line of the bottom side of the tank, that will fit a classic seat way better:

currently it is awaiting the delivery of paint.

Hello Brikos

You've made a nice tank there. Real engineering.

I see what you mean about the tank line. I would like to see it when you have the seat mounted to see how the two look together.

Thank you
Kevin

That's an interesting exhaust you have there, Brikos! Would you mind sharing a bit of info on the manufacturer, fit 'n' finish, etc?

Cheers,
Greg

Hi,

But ofcourse.
The exhaust was a brandless stainless steel slashcut that was on the bike when i bought it:

I modified it with hand made reverse cones to give it some more classical look:

But back to the tank designs: here is the seat i have laying around waiting for time:

alltogether I want to go for a tank+seat that resembles my last bike:

In my opinion, customing a bike starts with the tank: its position size and design determine what seat, side panels handebars etc will fit and look good.
