Leaking petcock
29.05.07 at 19:48:48

I have a leaking fuel petcock on my XV920RH, the rubber valve that is actuated by the engine vacuum must have a tiny leak. Gasoline ends up in the vacuum line, which disrupts everything and the bike is not idling.
My question is, can I find this petcock anywhere, and was the same unit used on the more numerous 920 and 1000cc Virago models?

Thanks,
Frank

There are petcock repair kits available, for example at louis.de or in ebay. Or maybe you find a used but still good petcock in ebay.

I know this sounds rude..
I had a bad rattle problem with the vacuum system some years ago and decided to just rip it out completely:
* disconnect the vacuum hoses and seal the connectors
* take the little lever off (screw on the backside, I believe)
* turn it 180 deg. and put it back on

=> Now the petcocks have to operated manually and the lever positions are inverted:
* lever forward is "off"
* lever up is "run"
* lever to rear is "reserve"

I hope I didn't forget anything in the assembly sequence, it has been a couple of years and I haven't touched them since then. All I know is that it's working fine!

I actually did forget something: You might want to take the little placard off the peacock and turn it 180 deg. with the levers, then the descriptions still make some sense...

And I found my old post (all in German):

Have fun!
