Should there be gaskets between cyl head and manifold or just the rubber ring ???

in the old days there were paper gaskets, but only for the original manifolds.
All the aftermarket stuff has just the o-ring. You may still get the paper gaskets but they make no sense with the modern parts.

Tip: Warm up the manifolds with hot air before (dis-)mounting the carbs. They don't get stressed that much and last longer.
