530 chain in closed cover
11.03.15 at 22:00:16

Hi all,

I am currently working on making a suzuki GT 750 wheel in the closed chain cover of my TR1, by fabricating a special adapter:

I first wanted to make a 630 rear sprocket fit on the GT 750 hub, but these are hard to find in the right size.

Now I know there are a few people driving around with a 530 chain. But does anybody know wether a 530 chain also works in combination with the closed chain cover? I know a comparable 43 or 42 teeth sprocket will fit the chaincover, but how about the rubber hoses?

And would a clip-type chain closure be possible? or would that become too wide?
Any ideas? Would like to have some feedback before ordering parts.

many thanks!

A 530 pitch should be the same width as a 630, only the individual links are shorter. That said, they should fit, BUT the stock 630 chain is without o-rings and modern chains come with them, so the outer plates may be further apart. Guess it'll boil down to measuring the width with a vernier.

I think, I have a new 530 chain in a box somewhere and I definitely have a 630 chain somewhere. If I don't forget to do it, I can take the measurements for you.

Cheers,
Greg

Hello
I'm looking earlier suitable 530 front sprocket  for my TR1 but I could not find and the sprocket should still have 9 mm offset, now I have  actually to do that.

Chain No.     Pitch  Roller Diameter  Roller Width  Sprocket thickness

530              5/8"          0.400"        3/8"                 0.343"
630              3/4"          15/32"        3/8"                 0.343"

Thnx Markku and Nanno for your replies.

Would be great if you could compare the two chains!
Indeed the enclosed chain should not have X or O rings, good calll.

Given that a 530 chain is as wide as a 630 chain: who can tell me wether a closing clip on a 630 (or 530) chain fits in the chain cover? (since the chain goes through the rear swingarm)
