Battery capacity
18.10.20 at 13:35:29

Hello to all.

I'm still continue my cafe racer project and I'm looking for the smallest battery possible because I don't want to use the original support.

Do you think that a battery of 8Ah and 135A at starter are sufficient?

Thank you for your answer

I hate to say it so openly: Not even remotely. Even the stock battery isn't too big. You can try a 5-7AH LiFePo battery, but this will mean that you do not have too much room for error, i.e. bad starting or the like. (I use one in my racebike and I can start it 4-5 times, but if the alternator isn't charging the battery is empty very, very quickly.)

Cheers,
Greg

Hi,

I measured the starting current at around 135A (the first second) but it drops fast to 80/90 Amps. So a battery that delivers max 135A is critical. The smallest size battery would be a lithium one. 4,6Ah delivers 200 starting Amps easily and weighs a kilo. If that's enough for daily use?!? no idea....

Best regards,

Loek

https://www.accuserviceholland.nl/lfp14-12-volt-48-wh-lithium-lifepo4-accu.html . Ml LFP14 48Wh ,never had any problems with this battery for 3 years now, 800 grams, EN CCA (cold crank ampere) 240A, which is necessary to start properly

Ok, noted, thank you for your answers, I will probabely test the litium battery but I had bad experience with that kind of battery in the past.

Hi,
I am using a 7,5 AH Lifepo Battery ( without electronics, Balancer ) since 7 years.
No problems. sometimes ago my starter-solenoid stuck in starting position, the engine / the starter was turning for 120 seconds , i could not stop that, until i was able to cut the ground cable.
The Battery was still OK.
The main thing about Lifopo4 Batteries is:
don´t  buy the cheapest stuff, and
control  the charging ,  not more than 14,4 Volt,
Ali
