hi paul,
are you sure the number you posted is not fom a xv920? The XV1000 pistons should fit. The TR1 part no is 5A8-11631-00 A0. Yo can find it on the "Tech Info" site and "Yamaha TR1 micro fiche".

So long, Olaf

hi Paul,
the 42H is the (newer) XV1100 Virago Type. Even when the pistons do have the same diameter, they probably have different piston skirt, boreholes and weight. The crankshaft is bigger.

g'day paul!

early XV1100 pistons are exactly the same as TR1 pistons - the 1100 gets it's extra capacity from a longer stroke.
I rebored my 83 TR1 last year and fitted 2nd oversize 1100 pistons - it runs fine Wink

pistons 42H-11636-00-00
rings  42H-11610-20
piston pin 5A8-11633-00
circlip 93450-24028-00
TR1 pistons are now a discontinued part but 1100 pistons are still available from Yamaha
www.cmsnl.com also stock many discontinued parts
best do a bit of overtime tho mate - they aint cheap!  Shocked

thanks bob, i was hoping somebody had the same problem, bob, when i go to the cmsl website the earliest 1100 they have there is a 86, its part no. for the piston and rings starts with ..1TA ? the early 84  xv1000s start with 42H ? see what u mean about the overtime, thats why i need to get it right. sorry to be a pain mate but are the numbers you put down the numbers you used to order your parts? thats again for the reply spent to much on the bike to let it go now. cheers paul

Hi Paul,

the pistons i fitted were part no. 42H-11636-00-00
I got them through a yamaha dealer.
Total cost including rings etc was about 270GBP
The TR1 part no is 5A8-11636-00-00
You'll notice the part No is the same, it's just a different prefix so 1TA-11636-00-00 pistons will fit as well
Try your yamaha dealer 1st - they may need to back-order from japan which will take about 5weeks for delivery but is likely to be a bit cheaper than cms
http://www.speedsupplies.com/cartdisplay.asp have pistons at 175USD

good luck!

cheers bob, theres light at the end of the tunnel. when i gave the part no to my local dealer here in queensland he said they would be on a back order but i agree would be quicker to get from the states and cheaper...paul
