Yes, there is a cross connection, but it's not more than one inch in diameter.
The OEM exhaust can on the left side is a weird construction that tends to be rotten after 25 years.
May be that the previous owner build this two in one thing because he could not use the left can any longer.
Anyway this can only bring less performance and even more heat to the rear cylinder.
OEM exhaust parts are no longer availible, at least in germany. Hope You find some.

The more I look at it, the more I realise that whoever did it put a lot of effort and probably expense into the job, making a full-size stub for the re-routed rear header and quite likely modifying the internals (judging by a particular weld line) before having the can rechromed. It could be that gasflow for the rear cylinder is actually improved, and the bike certainly sounds good but not too loud. I think I'll leave it as it is for the time being.
