Hello. I`m also looking for new membranes. My measurements are exactly the same - 78mm and slider 35mm. Somehow the inner measurement is a bit confusing - found on ebay 78mm and 38mm. Says for `82 XV750 Hitachi HSC40-35. And then found JBM Industries offering 78mm and 28mm. Also for all the 700plus Viragos HSC40 carburetor.
38mm seems not possible to get tight on 35mm slider. 28mm will strech on? Seller says "inner diameter, 1-2mm undersize". It is far more than 1-2mm.
