New TR1 rider in UK

Hi to all!

I just picked up my TR1 (a Mk1 but registered in '84) this weekend, after having been interested in the model for many months. A 150mile ride home confirmed that it was a good choice, though it needs some TLC. Only 25K miles on the clock, and all the original bits are still there! The engine looks glorious: a cross between a Vincent and a bevel Ducati. So many advanced/innovative features for the time, including the chain case.
I know I shall enjoy working on it and even more riding it.

This site is a brilliant resource, though I wish I'd learned German at school. It was that or Biology: go figure!  Wink

Well, you can always try the (Google powered) translation function. It's not the highest quality but far better than nothing...

Its good to see another TR1 that is respcted and hopefully looked after in the UK.

Did you buy th ebike that was on sale on eBay?

It was the low-mileage one on a buy-now of £1600 last month that had no takers, on sale at ebykes.biz. I paid the very pleasant chap £1500, which seemed fair for exactly the example I was looking for.

Anyway, thanks for the friendly welcome chaps! No doubt I'll be popping in as I check stuff out. I was delighted to find yet another innovation in the design: the in-frame airbox!

Currently I'm playing hunt-the-Regulator/Rectifier as I go through with ACF-50 on the electrics. Where is the thing?! Grin

Hello Nick

The regulator is fixed to the bottom of the frame where the centre stand and side stand connect to the frame.

What is ACF-50? Excuse my ignorance but I have never heard of it.

Thanks for that, Kevin. No wonder I hadn't seen the R/R which, no doubt, is covered in muck.

ACF-50 is the thinking man's WD40. Google it and you'll find it was formulated to preserve airplane components against corrosion (it kills it too) and, vitally, it is dielectric and does not affect switch contacts. WD40 will dry and leave a gummy residue but ACF won't, though it does creep out and attract dirt. Absolutely an essential workshop item, especially for older bikes, and worth every penny of the C£12 price!
