Hello Kenni

I can only share my experience.

I converted my TR1 to XS650 hubs. I have a 2.5 inch rim at the front and 4.5 inch rim at the rear. My bike is in Manfreds gallery 4, it has a burgundy coloured tank. You can take a look at it there.

At the front I have a 120/18 tyre on a 2.5 inch rim. To fit the wheel and tyre with standard forks I have to remove the mudguard bolts and replace them afterwards. It is a tight fit. So on standard forks I do believe this is the maximum rim size for the front.

On the rear I have a 150/18 tyre on a 4.5 inch rim. This fits comfortably. I have a standard swing arm and used a mix of XS650 and TR1 spacers to get the alignment right. With very careful attention to spacing I believe I could fit a 170/18 tyre. This would of course allow you to fit a wider rim. I have seen photos of 180/18 tyres fitted to a TR1. The rear swingarm looks to be standard but I couldn't fit a 180 tyre to a standard swingarm so some modification may have been done.

Of course, others may have different opinions!!

Best of luck.

Regards
Kevin

Hello Kenni

My rims are Morad polished alloy non-valanced. I bought them from Disco Volante. I think Howard was having quality problems with their later rims. Tel: 01490412621 http://www.discovolantemoto.co.uk/. I believe you could also source them from Central wheel company http://www.central-wheel.co.uk/rims/rims.html

The wheels were described exactly as:  front 'Morad TC undrilled 2.5x18x36' and the rear 'Morad TC undrilled 4.5x18x36'

Best of luck.

Kevin

Okay after a long time, i pulled the trigger on two rims:

Front:
rim - 17x3.5"
tyre - Pirelli MT60 R Corsa 120/70 R17 TL 58V

Rear:
Rim - 17x4.25"
tyre - Pirelli MT60 RS Corsa 160/60 R17 TL 69H

They where fittet on Yamaha xs650 hubs. Spokes and lacoing where done by a local.
I dont have the sizes on the spokes, it's just way more easy to get a pro to do it.

All fits like a glove, still doing some adjusting, with the axels and spacers but plenty of room for the tyres.

Regards Kenni
