Hi.... Have been looking for a TR1 Project near me for ages...(Had one long ago) bought one  off eBay a couple of weeks ago, it's been off the road for twenty plus years, I took a gamble !!...pulled the plugs and squirted oil Down the holes ,left it for a bit and gently turned it on the spanner....all seems fine and the gearbox seems to engage as well.... it's in such a state a full strip down will be needed and I will not feel so guilty about modding it extensively.....have started collecting parts.....till it's on the road I'll keep bimbling around on my Enfield.....cheers Richtea

Jollyho Mr. Richtea (Earl Grey? Lapsam? - sorry couldn't resist  Wink  )

Well then get crackin', the TR1 is a nice plattform and would have had a lot of potential back in the 80ies to show them Guzzis, Beemers and Dukes a rather impolite middle-finger, if Yamaha had developed it into a slightly different direction.

Lots of info on all sorts of power-adders (carbs, exhausts, increasing compression for next to no money) oh and don't sweat it, lots of high mileage bikes in here, so yes we know the whole starter assembly is absolute rubbish, but you can improve to roughly not-quite-absolutely-abyssmal-and-only-mildly-unreliable-levels.

If you got any questions, just feel free to ask. Couple of bilinguals on here, so even though it's a German-speaking forum, surely someone will take the time and translate the gibberish into her majesty's finest.

Cheers,
Greg

Cheers Greg....Tea is "builders"..milk no sugar!...The bike is in storage at the moment and I'm right in the middle of moving house .... hopefully to a nice big workshop , instead of the shed at present..and I've been told by management to keep the place tidy! The bikes got 18400 miles on its and that ties in with the dvla Smiley.....yep!..a very good platform for building something very decent... have been crawling all over the web looking at parts and info..Just very keen to get the move over and done with...safe riding...Richtea
