starter problem

Hi, I also found Larrys site and it is really very informative. However, I have a question which I would like your help with. I have just bought a TR1 (84)in appearently good condition, which however cannot start. I have testet the starter itself, by taking it out of the starter drive (planet gear), pushing the start button for a few seconds and it runs fine. But back in place all that happens is that the drive lever moves and and I hear I "click", when I push the start button. First I thought it was the battery, but I have testet with a connection to my GS850Gs batteri as well, same result. Any ideas ?.

I think the solenoid is faulty, or its connection to the starter is bad! It pushes the gears in place AND connects the starter to the battery at the same time.

I have found that the starter relais is very sensitive to small drop's in voltage. A worn starter button caused my problem. Did you connect directly to the battery?
