Hello to all tr1 owners, I am another rider that's had "tr1 starter trouble",after finding out the price of a new starter motor(£370)or a used one (about £200 if available).I thought about the possibility of trying an alternative starter. I tried an unknown one that I bought at an autojumble and separated the electrical part from the reduction gear part only to find that it rotated the wrong way!(I didn't think of this). I then found one that looked exactly the same at a local breakers shop,it was marked up "XJ 650" it worked ok,you just need to cut a litte bit off the starter motor casting where the bolt goes through, in order to fit it in place past the engine casting and make small axtension pieces to bolt it on with.
