Often you can repair it by cleaning the collector and replace the brushes. Used TR1 starters are rare, who has a working one, doesn't sell it... Bye, Georg

I have seen new 4 brush starters on ebay for about $135 USA - but I cannot guarentee they fit an XV1000 (make sure you get the correct 'nose-length' that fits you bike). Please let us know if the 4 brush starter bolts right on if you go this way (other people on ebay claim they do). Ash

It helps a lot if you have a contact/destination address in the US as well. Prices are about 35 to 50 USD for used starters - but you will need some patience. I managed to get a starter via ebay.com last year when I spend my vacation in Florida. There was no problem to get it to Germany as part of my hand luggage. Best regards, Harald
