ich fahre seit 1993 einen 920er Motor in meiner 750er (5G5) und bin nach wie vor sehr zufrieden, das lohnt sich auf jeden Fall.
Der 1000er Motor hat gegenüber dem 920er den Vorteil des besseren Anlassers.
Ob die 750er Köpfe auf dem 1000er Motor funktionieren, weiß ich nicht.

You have to consider the following:

1. Most XV750 engines are shaft drive, the XV100 is chain drive. So you will have to replace the rear wheel. The rear swing arm on the XV750 accommodates the shaft drive so you may have to replace that as well. Also the XV1000 has a different exhaust system so you will need to change that as well.
2. The starter mechanism on the XV1000/TR1 is better, use a four pole motor. The starter solonoid is placed in a different location and the wiring harness is different.
3. As Nanno says you can mount 750 heads on the XV1000/TR1 it is a well known performance enhancer it increases compression ratio. If you are based in Germany your XV750 cams may be 'low power output', you can replace them with XV1000/TR1 cams for a performance increase. UK XV750 cams are the same as the XV1000/TR1. Just check part numbers.

as Gerald is local to me (Austria) and we had a little chat and it is in fact a shaft-drive XV1000. Unfortunately a very early one, so it suffers from the same basic headgasket issues as a TR1. (Which is at least partially what he wanted to overcome.)
