TR1 won't fire,  strange spark from plugs.

I have this TR1  for a year. Did not use it because the planetary gear in the starter came loose short after I bought it. Did not take the time and effort to find it out and fix it.
The other day I took the left motorcover off and fix the starter. With the help of searching this forum.

But now I can’t get it to run. Have not fire it up for a year tho BUT I get a spark from the plugs ONLY if I hold them a couple of mm from the cylinder. Not if the threads or anything is in contact with the cylinder.

It is suppose to be like that? Can’t imagine they spark if they are in the top.

What’s is wrong here?

Tried with starter gas and it is not event try to fire. Nothing.
(By the way. It’s far from original)

Did you disturb any of the wiring when you did your investigation and starter fix? Specifically ground/earth wiring..

Is your engine painted? You might not get spark unless you ground the plug to one of the bolts..

Do you know how long it sat unused before you bought it? And for what reason was it sold?

Check the leads from coils to plugs, assuming those parts are still standard, pull the plug wire and check the ends for corrosion, the copper inside can go black over time, if so, cut them back slightly or replace the plug wires.

Get a multimeter and check your battery if it has stood for a year your battery might have suffered.

*nothing to do with spark but*

Lastly if it has been standing with the same petrol in the tank for this long the petrol might/will have gone bad. This will not affect spark but might mean even with spark it will not start. At least drain fuel from tank and carbs and replace with fresh fuel if you still can't get started. You might have to take off the carbs and clean them properly also check your fuel taps still operate the way they are meant to as they can also present an issue with long term non use..

Cheers,

Rant.

I dont think I did something with the wires.
I even took it apart again and was more carfull when i put it together.

It was running fine when I was buying it. Started really easy.
Its aftermarket carbs on it and it gets fuel in the cylinder. I have to drain old petrol today and try new one, but i tried starter gas but got nothing. No ignition.

I have tried started it so much i have drained the battery and uses start helper.

The leads are not standard.

But I cant understand why I get spark when I hold the wires from the motor a few mm but not when in contact?
Bad earth? I was thinking wire earth from negative to starter today.

Is it any sensor, neutral? clutch? or something that cut out?
I should not get any spark if it was some sensor that cut out the ignition right?

Hello Christer,
Have you ever tried other spark plugs, some didn´t spark under pressure correctly.
