Hello all,

I believe that my carb gasket is leaking. I can get the right material in various thickness gauges but, before taking everything apart; does anyone know what the thickness might be?

I have asked at the local dealer just in case they are cheap enough.

Thanks for responding mate. The previous owner had the carbs ultrasonically cleaned before selling the motor to me. This was done at a dealership.

I can actually see the petrol dripping from the float bowl. I have replaced 3 of the screws with hex bolts + spring washer and tightened them but still leaking, a bit less but still weeping from around the bowl and down the front inside bolt and right on the cylinder base. There are also no other signs of overflow or leakage. The traces are all under the bowl seat area.

The bike is actually running wonderfully.

In any case I am set for taking them out.

I have a tonne of Belpa CSA 56 gasket material and I am hoping it is the right thickness. It is a pain getting parts over here.

Thanks for replying.

The bowl screws where every so tight, I thought that was the culprit. I am only able to tighten 3 of them so I am taking them out and redoing the gasket anyway.

I will check for flatness as well. Funnily enough this has happened on the small xv250 that I ride to work, only 4 weeks ago. To add to that the accellerator plunger stuck and I had a ahrd time figuring out what went wrong. I am hoping it is only the paper gasket on the TR1.

I have trust in the seller and we have become friends during the whole purchase process. There is only one TR1 on the island as I could not find a record in the registrar. If there was one previously imported (and registered) there would be an entry.

However, I got all the paperwork from customs but I cannot get it registered as I haven't got a full A license. My test is in August. I ride it sparringly in short distances. It is very hot at the moment and I am too careful of the paintwork which is excellent. I never got roung to making a write up as I was wanted to sort out all the niggly bits first. The next item on my list will be the tank emblems. And then a full detail. I might also take out the exhaust headers and treat them a bit. Lots of surface rust. This is a short preview!

EDIT: Anyone have any idea of the gasket thickness?

Hallo Bruno,

Indeed I did not word this correctly. What I meant is, with the carbs installed, I cannot reach the rear/inside bolt of the bowl. I am going to have to take the carbs out and do it properly. I have to be more careful when writing things down.

I'll try and get this done soon. The material I have here is 0.8mm and is tested many times over. I can cut the gasket on my own with a set of punches.

Thank you for your input. Indeed, the level is defined by the float. I will take them apart and have a look.

Maybe it has been a gasket a bit too long this one!
