Cams - the are shot! How about the chains?

SadPulled the cams on my -83 TR1 today. I knew the were bad but they were FUBAR!
Seems like they have been run dry, some oil loss or block before I bought it. I cleaned out the oil lines and have used semi synthetic oil since then. I have put a couple of 1000 km on it after that without things getting any worse. I'll pull the followers because the are certainly FUBAR to.

The cam tensioners was 20 mm out. Is that an indication that the chains are good? The tensioner seems to have a max of 30 mm.
Perhaps there is another way of checking the chains??

Hi Lasse, you have a problem with the lubrication, check the intake-side of the oil pump!!!
If your engine has more than 70-ore80 000 Km change the oil-pump to the new One of
the 1100 XV. And always after work at the engine and change the oil filter - take out the
spark plugs, open the screw of the rocker arm from the frontside cylinder and pump up the
engine with oil so long to the time, if oil comes out by the screw. This is your savety, that
the lubrication is ok.
Greetings Josef

Racing is the answer, but I don't remember the question!

Thank's for your advice Sepp! It was the previous owner that destroyed the cams.  Angry I bought (about 700 euro) it as a spare-part bike but has come to like it more than my older TR1. (-81). I'll check up the oil pump and see if I can afford a -1100 pump instead; does it have more capacity?
How do I know if the cam chain (kette) is good??
