G'day.
I have an unusual XV 920. There are some pictures here if you wish to have a look.
http://members.wideband.net.au/bentons/Secret_page.htmI have recently had a problem with the starter motor and would very much like to know how the positive brush is connected to the power in side. My starter motor does not appear to be connected in any way. I have made a small plate which screws on to where the brush wire is connected and which holds the thing that sticks up out of the starter motor solidly in place to the brush. It works but I don't know for how long. Also, when I use the starter, the gear box bit on the ends turns and brings the long 5mm screw in contact with the main power terminal which then shorts and is probably responsible for all the meltedness inside the starter motor. I have placed a piece of round steel under the starter motor to stop it turning but it is only a quick fix. Is there a better way? Where can I purchase replacement starter motor brushes?
When I use the starter motor, after it fires up the engine, a large amount of gnashing and grating sound sometimes come from the starter motor. Is this normal? Is there a way to fix this?
Is there any place that sells replacement starter motors? I think it would be a very good idea to have a spare one.
Thanks.
Doonie
