poor fuel consumption
14.09.10 at 12:41:52

hi there

my xv1000 that i recently bought has a very high fuel consumption. i have cleaned the carbs and set the pilot screw again. i suspect the main jets have been enlarged for some reason as i cannot think what other part could cause such high fuel consumption (130km per tank) Shocked. its a 1981 model and the pipes have been changed to harley type pipes. also there is a misfire when i ride at high speeds and the revs are between 3000-4000kmph how ever its only when i ride on the free way at +-110kmph. could some body help shed light on this matter.

Hi,

Did you check the air filter element and the air filter housing?
Also you should check the air intake in the main frame.
Inside of the main frame is a rubber hose on every side.
Perhaps one or both are pinched together.
Mostly there is a mistake in the air flow when there occurs a very high fuel consumption.

What also happened to some machines is that the rubber hose on the air filter housing (below the seat)
is in a bad condition and closes when riding the bike faster.
Take it out and throw it away.
