Rear Exhaust routeing.
06.03.11 at 23:01:45

Gidday guys, have got to the part where we put the engine back in the hole.
been a long time getting this far.
Need to know exactly where and how the rear exhaust pipe goes.
Seems it wants to come out over ther rear swing arm.
Can anyone post a picture or two of how it sits and let em see what is needed.
Cheers.
Caseye.

Godday Casey,
the tube runs through  frame, then by mid-swing, down in front of rear wheel

Odin and Dirk, many thanks gentleman, I can now continue and finish getting the engine and the frame back as one unit.
I have deliberately not taken a single photograph of the bike while it's being rebuilt but rest assured I will be posting one or two when she's done.
Thank you again guys.

How will you build the exhaust? In the original route or coustum design?
For a orginag exhaust you will only be for a lot of money get in bad condition.

The bike has been converted to a single exhaust some time ago.
Before rebuildingn the bike I took the entire exhaustt apart, cleaned it up, cut it in half and removed the rattling rusted bits of baffle and welded it up again, then replaced the balance pipe and then had it all chromed.
It looks fantastic and with the extra compression that having two completely rebuilt cyclinders complete with intact and working head gaskets I just know she is going to sound awesome.
So Odin no extra expense, except the rebuilding of the old exhaust and the chroming of the entire system.NZ$800.00 to do the chroming.$15,00 - 2,000 to make a new twin system out of stainless steel.
Being a poor unemployed person I took the cheaper option, I actually like the single pipe and the exhaust note it generates.

He Cateye, it's sad that you're unemployed, but comfort yourself, even with a job you have here in Germany, not many opportunities.
I have the time, my bike, on Harley-Tubes rebuilt because original tubes were cheaper, and as Ratbikefahrer, then it is a matter of whether the chromium is the main thing is perfect, it works and is legal according to law.

I press your thumb for you, the conversion everything works and do not cost much.

Greetings from northern Germany

Hey there guys, well the engine is fully in the hole now, bolted up and ready to go.
Got the rear pipe sorted out.Looks great all shiny new Chrome amongst all the black engine and frame components.
Many thanks Odin and Dirk for the pics and the advice , so far.
Now I've another couple of small problems.
The first one.
The right side exhaust bracket bolts to the pillion peg,I know this, what I don't know is on the inside or the outside of the side plate/frame.Of course it can only go one or two ways but so far which ever way I put it on the bracket it does not seem to then want to marry up with the actual exhaust pipe.
Also on the same side there is an engine mounting bolt that goes through the side plate and into a caged nut on the inside of the main stand frame.
It appears that there is something else between the side plate and the head of the bolt, but Ai don't know what.If i put the bolt in and wind it home the thread goes right through and wont tighten up.
Your help and assistance is eagerly awaited.
Still not taken a single picture of this restoration.

Nearly forgot to add, I've got a jo0b again, bit of a come down from previous employment but a job is a job.Been going for a week already.

Good morning ...... Cateye first congratulations on the new job, even if it is not the old, but money is money, and you can always have.

To your question to the exhaust, you want to grow the original?
Or would you growing a Costumversion?

I ask because the pictures, because at a Costumversion, I can help you and what do.
For the original version here has someone determined images.

In principle, but the exhaust is at the junction of the passenger triangle holder.

Gidday there Odin, well I've obviously not explained myself quite well enough.
I am all good with the exhaust system. What I need to know  is simply which side of the right hand side Triangular aluminum side plate(it carries the front foot rest and the exhaust mounting bracket) the exhaust bracket bolts too.

As I wrote in my earlier post this is also a small problem for me, perhaps I also need to explain it a bit better.

Also on the same side there is an engine mounting bolt that goes through the aluminium side plate and into a caged nut on the inside of the main stand frame.
It appears that there is something else between the side plate and the head of the bolt, but Ai don't know what.If i put the bolt in and wind it home the thread goes right through and wont tighten up.
Again looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks for the good wishes and congratulations on the job, it's actually going very well and I'm enjoying it.
Just had an idea.
The picture (such detail was amazing) that Dirk posted for me last time is brilliant, all I need is for that picture to have been taken  including the aluminium side plate and showing the rear and front footrests and the exhaust bracket position(IE; behind the side plate, in front of the side plate)
That would do it. Cheers again.
Caseye.
