I had the same problem , cold starting no problem , when warm no start , I had also bought a chinese solenoid and it worked for a while , now back a original solenoid and problem solved

He wrote all 920 engines have the extra hole, only the first  750 engines haven't had the holes.

 Is it still possible to obtain all the required parts to do this type of conversion ?
    Feels like a winter project...
  I am glad that it usually starts on the 1st or second rotation.

Actually you can buy the very last iteration of the bendix new from Yamaha (but make sure you're well seated), the starter clutch can be acquired as a China copy via ebay/amazon, so yes. Just make sure that in this case you get the IIRC 19tooth XV1100 starter clutch and not the one for the XV1000.

The ratio was changed and in connection with a 4-brush starter the ol' girl finally starts like a normal Japanese bike... until the starter-motor fails again.  Tongue
