Carburettor joint - Alternative source
05.08.06 at 17:54:05

I have a baby TR1 (XV750E from the early 1980's Japanese home market) and needs new carby joints. They are the rubbers that fit between the carby and the cylinder head. I can't find any microfich-type thing for it and no dealer has a microfiche either to find the exact parts needed. So it looks like (from crude measurements and looking at the Heynes manual) that the carby joints for a TR1 might fit but these are >£30 each and I'm only guessing they will be a proper fit. So my question is do any other XV carby rubbers fit inplace of the designated TR1 rubbers because if something like the Virago's fit I could get a pair of patern carby joins for the price of one Yamaha joint that might not fit anyway.

I'm guessing they won't after reading their website as the parts I want are more of a connector than part of the carby, but I didn't know of this company before so I will contact them to ask. Thanks!

I just thought you misunderstood thats all.  Funny that nrp carbs are just 45mins from here on the train and I found out about them on a German forum  Smiley but they are closed till August 14th (or was it 12th  undecided).

I wonder if I can be of any use to forum mermbers who are not as close as me to nrp carbs? PM me if you think I can help in any way.

I might be going to NRP in the next few days so any requests get them into me now. Smiley

OK Georg I went today and got my rubbers.

I have been walking past the place every visit to Manchester. They are located inside Victoria train station, right opposite the gents toilets. If anybody out there is thinking..."Didn't that used to be a leather repair shop?" well it still is and that is where nrp are now too. They guy had a very handy book and even gave me more info than Yamaha did on my own bike (that is was only built only in one year and only available for the japanese market). I took my own carbs just for a looks-see and even had them given the once over (that means a quick look at them to see their condition).

Their new products are as Georg pointed out Inlet rubbers or as some call them Rubber manifolds.
They are also now dealing in emulsion tubes which is the tube the needle drops into and otherwise known as needle jets.

I could have done with a few more bits but I'm skint at the mo so I only bought the two rubbers plus gaskets (fwiw the rubbers I got also fit the TR1 and were £17 each vs Genuine Yamaha of £30 each)

Oh my God how do you get the carbys back in place?  embarrassed I tried putting the Joints on the carbys and trying to get the whole lot back on the bike but couldn't do it. (I couldn't get them out the bike without leaving the joints attached so thought I'd have to have them attached to reinstall them). Any tips appreciated.

Also I have just hit a small snag with the new joints (see picture)  They have a little ridge in the groove the fasteners lie in. The ridge stops me using my old fasters or any standard fasteners. I am tempted to cut the ridges off, but they must have been introduced for a reason? What do you all do, cut this off or go and order (huh! if i can still get a part number!) the professional fastener because this ridge is important!?!?!  undecided

Sepp has described this here:
https://www.tr1.de/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1143029491

If you dont understand german i´ll try to translate it. Short version: put the carbs in place without intake rubers, then move the rubbers in from the side, mount them at the cylinderhead, and then push the carbs into the rubbers and tighten the clamps.

I think you can cut off these ridges on the intake rubbers, they are just there to prevent the original fasteners from turning around when tightening them.

Bye,
Georg
