kdemery TR1 Board Senior Member Posts: 397 Gender: Bike: TR1 & Vincent Rapide	Replacement Indicators 18.06.20 at 16:53:37 Hello All I have decided to replace the rather large indicators. I have bought a set of small bullit shaped indicators. I have installed the first one and the indicators do not work. The front and rear indicators come on but they do not flash. I suspect the change in resistance causes the problem so I have checked the resistance of the bulbs. The TR1 indicator bulb has a resistance of 0.9 ohm. The small bulb in the bullit indicator measures 3.4 ohms. I have other small bulbs, that fit cars, so I measured those and they too are 3.4 ohms. So it would appear that the physically smaller bulbs have a higher resistance. How do I fix this? Is there a relay designed for higher resistance bulbs? I would appreciate your advice. Thank you. It can handle normal bulbs , Led´s, even combined. https://www.louis.de/artikel/digitaler-blinkgeber-mo-flash/10032190 for example, there are even cheaper relais on ebay. As Ali wrote before, you can buy a "load independant flasher relay", which always flashes with the same frequency. The drawback is that you dont realize if a lamp is broken. The original relay flashes faster in that case. There are also smaller Lamps with 21 Watt: https://www.louis.de/artikel/kugellampe-klein-12v-21w-ba15s/10031079 Or you can install a resistor in parallell with the new indicators, so that the resistance in total is 0,9 ohm.

I thought this would be the best solution. My relay has arrived. I thought I would try it out before I changed the indicator lights. I plugged it in and it doesn't work. Lights do not flash they do not even come on. The relay has the same three pins as the original TR1 relay and they are marked the same. I assume because the relay is 'load independant' it should work with original bulbs, small bulbs and LED's. If it doesn't work the relay is defective or my assumption is wrong. Please advise. Kevin

Ali TR1 Board Extraterrestrial Member Posts: 1278 Bike: TR 1	Re: Replacement Indicators Reply #5 - 30.06.20 at 22:11:30 Hi Kevin, what you can do is to measure with some Voltage/ Resistance device, there should be ground on the relay, plus 12 V and the output to the handelebar switch. 12V is OK? Ground is OK? Measure the resistance when you switch on left or right indicator, the device should show something , LED: higher resistance, Bulbs : lower resistance but not Zero/ eternal resistance . I remember the Original Relay had 4 connectors, but only 3 where connected. On the wiring Diagram there is a difference between German / US /English version, the difference is a "turn signal cancel relay", if you have something like that, it can cause problems. Try also to change pins, i remember they wheren´t marked correct originally, Regards Ali Edit: i took a look at my (it´s called digital, what ever that means ) Load independent relay, it has 3 wires: incoming Plus 12 from the fuse, out to the handlebar switch, and another out to the Instrument indicator, no ground
