Hello! Great site Manfred! I love to patricipate in the diskussions but I'm restricted to the english language... Anyhow, I understand some of the german diskussions but a lot of slang makes it difficult. 1981 I bought a brand new TR1., after 2 years I traded it in for a Kawasaki 1000J, but did regret it somehow... Now after more than 20 years I'm the proud owner of 2 TR1.:s but only one of them runs properly. The newest (-83) dont run on the front cylinder - I think it's some fuel-supply problem. A good idea would be a database were you can find the different bikes that had the same frontlight, brakes etc. as the TR1. The big frontlight can be found om some Zuzuki models from the same years (1981-1983) and on some other YAMAHA models also. Merry Christmas!

recently come across a tr1 with 16000 miles on the clock as new, for not a lot of money, just as it left the factory,except for a brand new exhaust system. just love it , not ridden my gs 1000 since, awesome site, rivvy barn rocks !!!

Hallo Manfred, ich bin gerührt. Wie viel Liebe und Mühe Du hier in Deine HP hineingesteckt hast! Die hast Du sehr schön gestaltet. Du hast Dir damit ein Denkmal gesetzt, finde ich! Ich bin nach langer Enthaltsamkeit (Familie) wieder auf meine alte Liebe gestoßen, die den Kopf frei und nicht voll, hoffentlich nie abmacht! Früher liebte ich meine NSU Super-Max und meiner 500er BMW. Nach einiger Suche habe ich in Bezug auf Seele und Zuverlässigkeit meine 750er (87)und 920er (88) gefunden. Sie haben mich nie im Stich gelassen. Wer einmal verheiratet war, weiß, was im Argen ist. Und dann gibt es unterwegs keine Pannen! Fahrspaß pur! Ohne Gerenne! Bin, wie Du, gerne behilflich.

I bought this bike new in 1981. It has spent the last 16 years in my parents basement. I have finally gotten it going again and I'm looking for some parts that were stolen off it several years ago. Does anyone know where I can find a set of engine crash guards/bars and also a Luggage Rack with a Sliding Backrest? I had a beautiful chrome rack with sliding backrest that was made by a company called Connecticut Cycle. Alas, they went belly up years ago! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Bonjour les amis, je suis super content de voir que je ne suis pas le seul a posséder cette merveille qu'est la 1000 TR1.Apparemment, il y a peu de français parmi vous,c'est dommage car on trouve ici de belles machines pas très chers. After reading this site I am no longer amased at how many people have the classic virago's. I just bought one for 1000 canadian and after adjusting the valves it runs perfect. Mein Deutsch ist nicht so gut Dies ist eine Große Website., nachdem Lesen von diesem das ich mich freut, zu sehen, daß ich eine gute Entscheidung gemacht habe. Ich habe einen XV920 für $1000 und alle, die es einige gewesen war, fein gekauft einstellen. Ein großes erstes Fahrrad.

I allways had Ducatí's, so for something completely different i bought a TR1 from '84. Alltough it is pretty rusty it still goes perfectly and i love to ride it, lots of power at low revs, good handling. I am cleaning it up and want to restore it to it's showroom condition,your site is a great help to me; i knew nothing about the thing and got all the technical information from your site.Thanks for your great job and keep it up!

I bought this bike from a mate. It's got only 26,000 kms with shaved heads, K&N jets and filter, solo seat, black paint with orange wheels, rear set foot pegs and an underslung exhaust. I'm going to use it for club racing. Should be FUN! My usual ride is a Honda VTR 1000 Firestorm.

Schöne HP mit vielen Informationen. Meine TR1 ist im Originalzustand. Die 110.000 Km sieht man dem Motorrad an. Der Auspuff (mehrfach geschweißt) und die Kette sind noch nicht getauscht worden. Wenn ich mal Geld habe, kaufe ich eine Edelstahlauspuffanlage. Ich war 1988, 1989, 1990 auf den TR1-Treffen in Schotten. Vielleicht komme ich 2003 mal auf das Treffen in Roßbach.

Schön andere Freunde der TR1 zu finden. Gratulation zu der sehr ansprechenden HP. Bin nur ein Motorrad Nutzer und deshalb sieht meine TR1 mittlerweile sehr benutzt aus. War ursprünglich mal BMW Boxer Fan und fand bei der TR1 alles geünschte nur ohne die bayerischen Probleme... Falls in der Oberpfalz/Niederbayern Raum R, SR Lust auf kleinere Touren in den Bayerischen Wlad hat würde ich mich über einen Anruf freuen.

I have over 100k on this bike excellent plus a spare bikes & racing motor in a garage in Vancouver, trouble is I am living in UK and my Canadian garage is going to be demolished soon. Hallo, zunächst möchte ich mal sagen, wie gut mir die Seite von Manfred gefällt! Muss ne Menge Arbeit gewesen sein. Nun zu meiner TR1 und wie ich dazu kam. Es hatte eigentlich 1980 damit angefangen. Ich hatte damals eine TR1 von meinem Schwager Peter Stocksiefen (Motorradhaus Stocksiefen bei Gross-Gerau) für einen Samstag zu einer Probefahrt erhalten. Wir, meine Frau - damals noch Verlobte - fuhren in die Pfalz usw. Ich war von der TR1 begeistert, hatte ich doch 10 Jahre vorher noch eine Guzzi V7 Sport gefahren. Seit 1980 sind viele Jahre ins Land gegangen, zwei Kinder, Beruf usw. und keine Zeit (Geld) für ein Motorrad. 1998 zu der Geburtstagsfeier meines Schwagers sah ich eine TR1 in rot, Bj.83 im Verkaufsraum stehen. 23000km! sehr guter Zustand und ein guter Preis! Zwei Tage später war sie mir! Ich komme zwar wenig dazu Touren zu machen, aber wenn ich mir die Zeit nehme macht es Spass. Odenwald, Spessart oder Taunus, es ist immer schön! Wer im Raum Frankfurt a.Main, Offenbach oder Umgebung wohnt, kann mir gerne ein e-Mail schicken. Ich überlege auch schon, ob ich zu dem TR1-Treffen kommen soll? Viele Grüsse Norbert

Super Seite. Auch mit dran Schuld, dass ich wieder TR1 fahre. Fuhr mit Ärger 1981 und 1982 die 1. Version, dann verkauft (fast verschenkt), inzwischen fast alles gefahren, was schnell und groß war, aber nie richtig von der TR1 losgekommen. Seit heuer Besitzer von 2 guten Tr1. Habe seit langem wieder Spaß, bei jeder Gelegenheit damit auf die Straße zu gehen. Wenn die Zeit es im Winter zuläßt, möchte ich eine umbauen (wie Sepps Scrambler), auf jeden Fall nur das nötigste dranlassen. Wenn jemand von euch schon dazu einige Erfahrung hat, ich bin für jedes Info dankbar. Vielleicht bis zum nächsten Treffen ? Gute Zeit, Horst

I was shopping for a large crousing bike and the XV1000RH stood out,21 years later holds it's own. Well preserved and restored bike. And where I live I have ideal torein -open country and mountains and perfect weather almost all year round.Love it. I'd like to learn more about the XV1000RH and it's history and any updates. Diese Seite ist eine feine Sache - Ich habe schon geglaubt, dass ich der letzte TR1 - Fahrer bin. Seit 1981 halte ich meinem guten Stück die Treue. Man wird sich mit der Zeit ähnlich, am Morgen sind wir beide noch ein wenig steif, aber sobald wir in die Berge rund um Mariazell kommen, sind die alten Knochen angewärmt und dann geht es flott dahin! 2003 möchte ich nach Roßbach kommen.

I got my bike in 1988 I paid $500. for it about 30,000 miles ago. It's been a great bike for me. I'v done some modifications to it and thuoght there weren't any other bikes like it but now I know there is.

After 21 years, at last! I own another 920! Its my winter project. As with all projects....I NEED PARTS! Any idea where I can get the original headlight assembly and front turn signals? I bought it with a fairing and windshield, but I want to bring it back to stock condition. I also need the original exaust pipes. If anyone has any ideas or tips, I would love to hear them.

First let me apologize for poor literacy of most of the other Yanks, many who own the Virago (cruiser) styled XV. I purchased mine in Nov 85 out of the crate, since introduced to US market in middle of economic recession and was stored in warehouse. Have had every problem mentioned, and it keeps going. There is a great product here called Engine Restorer, an oil additive that is added with every oil change, which slowly coats the cylinders to boost compression. Works very well in the XV, as I have noticeably more power everywhere due to 40,000 miles on original rings. (Also works in my high-mileage Celica All-Trac Turbo/GT-4...) Anyway, my bike is quite rare here but seems to have a loyal following in Europe. Wonderful to know.

For a couple of years I had the pleasure of owning a big woofly TR1 (1981). Great power, but controllable and relaxed, top speed (once only) 180kph, around 45 mpg consumption. I used to ride around the Coromandel peninsula (lovely scenery) usually only changing gear 5 or 6 times the whole trip. Only faults were suspension (over 145 kph bumps would kick back due to shock absorber wear) and deterioration due to owner neglect (guilty as charged). After a prolonged illness I couldn't ride for several months, the cylinders seized, and the bike was stuck in the garage. An engineer friend rescued it, fully restored it, and it is now his favourite of 5 bikes in his own garage!

Hello Manfred, thank you for creating and maintaining this site. I purchased my 1981 XV920RH brand new in 1983. Just before, I had ridden with my german friend Albert Eicher on his XV and decided to buy one! The only modification on it is an oil cooler and the two front fork tubes air inlets connected together to an air pressure gauge (easier to put the 12 psi in). I intend to keep this amazing machine for ever and would like to get another one for my wife. Take care! Bye!

Hätte es solche Seiten doch schon gegeben, als ich die TR noch fuhr! So mußte ich mir alles selbst zusammenreimen! Ferdi März in Prüm habe ich irgendwann zufällig beim Rennen in Dahlem getroffen. Seitdem hatte ich immer alle Hilfe, die ich brauchte, zumal ich es damals von meinem Wohnsitz Trier nicht so weit hatte! Im übrigen macht er gigantische Eigenbauten. Ich hatte immer viel Spaß mit meiner TR, aber auch (z. T. mangels Kohle) viel Ärger. Mehrere Jahre habe ich sie angeschoben, weil der verdammte Anlasser fast nie funktionierte. Die TDM ist zwar nicht schöner, kann aber leider alles besser, und das bei gleich niedriger Drehzahl!

I have been traveling with this perfect bike a lot of. The biggest prolems on my bike : -rear cylinder gasket. After 2 times I changed copper gasket , same size than original - starting . Bendix, start motor etc. - original chain was ok until 95 000 km. and now there is 3.rd chain. - once I've changed cluch plates and stronger springs - rear wheel oil seal , the big. 14 cm Also some small things . can't even remember all of them . But still bike is ok. Thanks for this pages to Manfred and all of you TRI riders all over the world.

Hallo zusammen......ich habe mir diese TR1-Homepage schon desöfteren betrachtet und finde sie recht originell - hier ist für jeden TR1-Freak etwas dabei. I just purchased this machine that originally came from New York state. It is a little the worse for wear but I can fix or replace all that is needed. I was drawn to this machine because of its simplicity and the fact that the engine is bullet proof ( I have friends that own Viragos and beat the crap out of them and they don't quit). This is the third bike in my garage but only runner #2. I ride a 96 Trophy 900 and have a 79 SX650 ready to restore. I have this site bookmarked and plan on using as much info as I can get out of it for my own personal satisfaction. Just kidding, great site, keep it up.

Hallo erst mal Ich habe meine Tr1 jetzt 4 Jahre und habe das hintere Federbein und die Gabelfedern getauscht. Hallo Manfred. Toll was du auf die beine gestellt hast. Meine TR1 habe ich von meiner Nachbarin, die Zylinder hat mir die Fa.März gemacht .Jemand hat mal eine Alarmanlage eingebaut und an der Elektrik gebastelt. Tanja ist öfters mal mit der Maschine umgefallen sie hat einige Schmarren am Lampenring uud an der rechten Auspuffseite.Die Benzin-Hähne sind nicht Dichtuun die Optik ist na ja.Ich würde sie gerne verkaufen,was könnte ich für die Maschine verlangen. Sie ist mit Saison Kennzeichen zugelassen und hat keine 20tkm laüft Super könnte aber neuen Lack vertragen. Ich wünsche dir und deiner Famielie ein gesundes neues jahr.

Hi I bought a Japanese import XV750E (750 version of a TR1)over 10 years ago, in that time it has had the barrels off an XV1000 fitted, the head flowed and ported by Stan Stevens and generaly kept going despite Yamaha dicontinuing spares! I have tonnes of spares, and 10 years of grazed knuckle knowledge that I am willing to share. I intend to keep my old girl running for as long as I can. MarkyD

Someone just gave me 1983 Midnight Virago (XV920). It needed piston rings which he was having a hard time finding. After much searching, I found out about www.totalseal.com. They provided me with the rings and now I am rebuilding the top half. Can't wait to ride it! My home page is under construction (as of 09/01/01). Will be up soon. Chris
